Brief update

As you can tell by the lack of recent posts, things have been a little crazy around the Coates house the past month: sickness, home improvement projects, various fun visitors, more sickness, etc. We have been doing things, though.

Luke has been working hard at becoming a superhero, the first step in which (as everyone knows) is to establish some type of effective body armor.

The girls are not quite as good at understanding the urgency or objective of the mission.

Levi was nonplussed by the superhero planning session, until people began waving proton packs in his vicinity and railing about ectoplasm.

My Uncle David came from Florida for a visit last week so we had some family get-togethers. Levi is on the floor but enthused by the festivities.

Dr. Roberts delivered Levi quickly–only 5 minutes after she arrived to the room.

Janna did great all day–she battled some weird IV stickings and had a terrific delivery. She’s a champ!

It’s nearly impossible to overestimate how much the kids loved finally seeing Levi. Chloe kept his name a secret, even under considerable duress from Mr. Wilson.

And the grandparents seem to like Levi. His middle name is Michael after my dad, Gary Michael.

Caught a little unawares, the kids cuddled up on Janna today. She rarely rests so it’s a sure sign that Baby Boy must be on the way.

Opening Day

Opening Day is a big deal in Cincinnati, even when the Reds lose (though SI did pick them to finish second in the division this year, one game out of the wild card). I’m excited to have someone to listen to my lively in-game commentary and insightful player analysis.

Pigskin weather

I’ve held off on posting the picture by our neighbors sign for fear of jinxing the Buckeyes sterling season, but it’s a cute pic anyway. The other is from a Mason Comets game against the #2 ranked team in the state, Colerain. They’re big fans, and both are learning to throw using the laces and to placekick.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Chloe and Luke went to their first Reds game on Monday night at Great American Ballpark. They had a lot of fun–Chloe really liked the Reds’ mascot, Gapper, and Luke really liked having so many people close by to give him attention.
Luke did manage to fall down and bonk his head on a nearby seat in the eighth inning, but he’s listed as day-to-day and probably won’t land on the DL.And, luckily I brought my glove because they needed an extra player by the 12th inning.

The Reds did finally win, 2-1 in the 12th, which is no small miracle this year.
